How does the camps will look like?

Offering fully virtually, it will be 2-one hour long synchronous sessions per week. Each camp will run for 4 weeks long. Materials will be provided for campers to complete asynchronously, and all materials can be accessed asynchronously.

The aim of the camp is to simulate the pace (including exams) of first-year Engineering while supplementing campers with key topics covered in each course. After the camp, campers will have a head start on the material from Day 1.

Please note that the camps are not for credit at the University of Alberta and only for preparation for the courses the students will first encounter in their first semester in the Engineering program.

Camps offered

PHYS 130 - Wave Motion, Optics, and Sound

Geometrical optics, optical instruments, oscillations, waves, sound, interference, diffraction

CHEM 103 - Introductory University Chemistry I

Atoms and molecules, states of matter, chemistry of the elements.

MATH 100 - Calculus for Engineering I

Review of numbers, inequalities, functions, analytic geometry; limits, continuity; derivatives and applications, Taylor polynomials; log, exp, and inverse trig functions. Integration, fundamental theorem of calculus substitution, trapezoidal and Simpson's rules.

ENGG 130 - Engineering Mechanics

Equilibrium of planar systems. Analysis of statically determinate trusses and frames. Friction. Centroids and centres of gravity. Forces and moments in beams. Second moments of area.

Schedule and Fees

The camps are tentatively scheduled as follows, subject to registration numbers and demand:

June 1st to June 26th
July 6th to July 31st
August 3rd to August 28th

If you already pre-registered, you will receive an email notifying you whether that you are interested to sign up is confirmed. Then, you will be invited to complete the payment.

Fees will be:

$200 (early-bird rate) / $250 (regular rate) for a 4-weeks camp. Early-bird rate deadline can be subjected to change. If you complete the pre-registeration before the deadline, you will be eligible to sign up for the camps at the early-bird rate once the camp is confirmed to run.

Campers are eligible to register to be in multiple camps at one time.
